Hanging with Team USA in Dusseldorf

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Hey everyone…I am in Dusseldorf, Germany, this week playing the sam-querrey-madrid-backhandARAG World Team Cup with my  American friends and teammates Mardy Fish and Robby Ginepri.  We lost our first two matches to Germany and Sweden, but tomorrow we are geared up to play France for third place.  Every night I have been out to dinner with Mardy and Robby where we have had some awesome wiener schnitzel at the local restaurants!  The site also has some pretty good food too and I really like their turkey curry.

Before Dusseldorf I was also in Madrid and Serbia.  In Madrid we played at their new stadium called the “magic box” and I had a lot of fun going out to dinner every night to a really good Argentine steakhouse with James Blake, Mark his trainer and my coach David.  When I was in Serbia I had two bodyguards with me full-time every day, and we didn’t even stop at traffic lights when we were driving at night.  Even though it was a little scary there, it was still a really cool tournament.

After our match against France tomorrow, I will head to Paris on Friday morning where my mom, sister and friend Claire from LA will meet me.  Paris is one of my favorite cities in Europe because the restaurants and food there is so good!  Well that’s all for now, I will write more from Paris.

My close match against Seppi

sam-querrey-serving-red-clay-2Today I played a great match, I thought against  Andrea Seppi in Madrid, Spain at the Master’s Series event.  In the third set,  it was Seppi who converted a break point  for the win.  I felt like I played well, but Seppi is very good on the clay.   After the match, I stayed to watch my fellow American James Blake take on Ivo Karlovic; James won and he plays Roger Federer next, so I will stay in Madrid one more day to practice and watch his match.  Next up for me is a team event in Dusseldorf, Germany.  Eight contries will be represented there and I will be the team captain for the U. S. team.  Robbie Ginepri is playing as well.  I am waiting to hear if the Bryan Bros. will play.  If they don’t play, I am hoping Marty Fish will come play.  I am looking forward to getting three quality matches before the French Open the following week.  Plus, it’s always fun to play in a team event.  I am enjoying Europe so far, but I am pretty excited to get to Paris, my favorite city in Europe!!
